We all know that it has been an especially cold spring this year, so don’t come expecting peaches and raspberries (they will come eventually!), but there will still be plenty of wares to purchase, farmers to meet, and community to enjoy.

The Trinity Bellwoods Farmers’ Market starts at 3pm and wraps up at 7pm; for more information on vendors and to learn what produce will be available at the market, go to www.tbfm.ca.

24. Sorauren Farmers’ Market

January 24, 2011

Need to pick up your groceries for the week, but can’t bear the thought of navigating through a grocery store with all your winter gear and a sloppy, snowy, wet shopping cart? Sorauren Farmers’ Market is your opportunity to get fresh, local food without the hassles of the grocery store!

Sorauren Farmers' Market

This year the Farmers’ Market is operating every week through the winter, so you can plan your meals around seasonal produce, available from farms that surround Toronto. Though the harvest isn’t as bountiful at this time of year, there is still plenty of selection: root vegetables make a warming stew, honey from local beekeepers is perfect for spreading on freshly baked bread, while meat choices range from grass-fed, naturally-raised beef to the more adventurous venison.

The Sorauren Farmers’ Market is hosted on Mondays at Sorauren Park (in the fieldhouse in the colder winter months) from 4 to 7pm.

6. Dufferin Grove Organic Farmers’ Market

January 6, 2011

While most farmers’ markets have called it quits for the year, the vendors at Dufferin Grove Organic Farmers’ Market are tough – they stick it out through the winter months!

While the selection is obviously smaller than during the harvest months, you can still purchase fresh, organic, and local fruits and veggies at the Dufferin Grove Farmers’ Market, along with honey, eggs, preserves, baked goods, fair-trade hot chocolate and coffee, and bread baked right in Dufferin Grove Parks’ community oven.

The market has moved indoors (in the park’s rink-house), meaning you can shop and skate from 3pm to 7pm on Thursdays throughout the winter!
